Can Kevin and Mike upend Black Bart and the Grappler? How will Warrior and Lance fare against the “Maniac” and the “Master”? Plus, highlights from Christmas! Let’s celebrate 1987!

Opening montage.

Match 1: Dingo Warrior & Lance Von Erich versus “Maniac” Matt Borne & Master Gee (w/ Percy Pringle)

Highlights:

  • Due to licensed music removal, this match was joined in progress.
  • The heels whipped the babyfaces, yet Lance and Warrior do-si-do’ed and went on the attack.
  • When Lance hip-tossed him, Borne retaliated with a swinging neckbreaker for 2.
  • Gee tagged in, leapfrogged Lance, and attempted a monkey flip.
  • Astutely, Lance evaded him.
  • Lance leapfrogged Gee and successfully followed with a monkey flip.
  • As he backdropped Gee, Lance tagged out.
  • Warrior hooked a sunset flip and got 2.
  • After Pringle ran subterfuge gaining referee Bronko Lubich’s attention, Gee cheated like a mofo. SNEAKY!
  • Borne tagged in and rolled up Warrior for 2.
  • While Warrior hoisted Borne onto his shoulders and swung him, Borne’s boots knocked down an incoming Gee.
  • The Dallas faithful LOUDLY chanted “go, Dingo, go,” and their hero countered a rear chin lock with a sandwich in the corner.
  • Preventing Warrior from tagging out, Borne landed a flying elbow drop.
  • Gee tagged in and thwarted another sunset flip attempt by Warrior.
  • Giving Gee a cross corner whip, Warrior came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Borne tagged in and applied a front face lock.
  • Countering with a bear hug, Warrior converted to an inverted atomic drop.
  • Hot tag Lance.
  • Backdropping Borne, Lance dropkicked an incoming Gee.
  • He clotheslined Borne and trapped him in an abdominal stretch.
  • With Gee making the save, all four wrestlers were in the ring.
  • Although Borne dispatched Lance outside the ring, Warrior cleaned house.
  • Lance mounted the top turnbuckle, but Pringle wacked him with the cane sending him down hard to the mat. How dastardly!
  • Seeing the interference, Lubich called for the bell.
  • Lance and Warrior won by DQ at 10:48 shown.

Summary: I get the feeling someone didn’t want to do the J-O-B in this match.

Match 2: Al Madril versus Steve Doll

Highlights:

  • Immediately, Madril took the match down to the floor and rammed Doll face-first into Marc Lowrance’s table.
  • He grabbed Lowrance’s chair and SMACKED Doll with it.
  • As Doll HIT THE POLE, he returned only for Madril to toss him down to the other side of the ring.
  • Madril joined and rammed Doll into an exit door sending him out to the parking lot.
  • When Doll returned, Madril popped him hard enough to want butter.
  • Doll rebounded with a dropkick, leapfrogged Madril, but ate a clothesline.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Madril won at 3:26.

Rating: DUD

Summary: Showcase match for Madril.

At ringside, Mercer interviews Madril along with Brian Adias. Madril refers to Warrior as “Bingo.” HA! When Adias takes his turn, he’s all about the Benjamins. He displays the destroyed portrait from Fort Worth and ridicules the Von Erichs about it. To stir up outrage, Adias mimics Kerry’s hobbling. What a meanie! Each keeps mentioning a match at Reunion Arena, so I suspect they’re referring to the Christmas show.

Speaking of the Christmas show, we see highlights beginning with a bunkhouse match between Scott Casey and Black Bart. While both wrestlers are BUSTED OPEN, Casey wins forcing Black Bart to ride a donkey around the ring. Next, Abdullah and Brody battle in a steel cage, and, thanks to chicanery from Gary Hart, Abdullah exits the cage in victory. Because Brody loses, he must leave Texas!

In other matches:

  1. Mark Youngblood beat Brooks.
  2. Steve Simpson defeated Grappler.
  3. Lance Von Erich beat Master Gee.
  4. Dingo Warrior and Boo Bradley fought to a double disqualification.
  5. Candi Divine defeated The Lock a.k.a. Winona Littleheart.
  6. Tony Atlas beat Borne.
  7. Kevin and Mike Von Erich defeated Madril and Adias by DQ.

Match 3: Steve Simpson versus Chuck West

Highlights:

  • Simpson locked West in a body scissors and rolled him up for 2. Since he’s not Batman, there was no escape.
  • When he slammed West, Simpson fed him an elbow drop.
  • He gave West a cross corner whip followed by a monkey flip.
  • As he mounted the top turnbuckle, he scored with a cross body block.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Simpson won at 5:19.

Summary: Showcase match for Simpson

Match 4: Kevin & Mike Von Erich versus Black Bart & “Killer” Tim Brooks

Highlights:

  • Mike tagged in, mounted the top turnbuckle, and lowered the boom onto Black Bart.
  • As Mike leapfrogged him twice, he dropkicked Black Bart twice.
  • Brooks tried to insert himself into the melee but got cut off by Kevin.
  • When Mike dealt him some knuckles in the corner, Black Bart countered with an inverted atomic drop.
  • Brooks tagged in and trapped Mike in a trapezius hold.
  • After Mike escaped, he ate a knee to the midsection.
  • Kevin tagged in, gave Brooks a cross corner whip, and followed with his own knee to the midsection.
  • While Black Bart tagged in, he baited Mike into the ring.
  • That prompted referee David Manning to step in.
  • Although the heels tried to double-team him, Kevin fed them a double noggin knocker.
  • All four wrestlers were in the ring, and the Von Erichs rammed the heels together.
  • Simultaneously, the Von Erichs dropkicked the heels, and Kevin vaulted Mike into a splash upon Brooks.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Mike and Kevin won at 7:15.

Rating: ***

Summary: With the Dallas faithful strongly behind them, the Von Erichs used synchronization and psychology en route to victory.

Conclusion:  Fun episode to begin the year as both Kevin & Mike as well as Lance & Warrior gained victories. Madril and Adias prove how vicious they are while the biggest news was Brody’s loss on Christmas night. That’s just not right, Jack!

Next week, Lance battles Black Bart as well as the tag champs squaring off against Simpson and Casey.
