Opening montage.

Match 1 (non-title): WCWA World tag team champions Al Madril & Brian Adias versus Scott Casey & Steve Doll

Highlights:

  • Ring announcer Marc Lowrance screwed up royally by calling Madril and Adias the “American tag team champions.”
  • Due to what I believe was licensed music removal, Casey and Doll’s introductions were removed.
  • Adias leapfrogged him twice, but Casey hip-tossed him.
  • When Madril tagged in, he blasted Casey right between the eyes.
  • Adias tagged in and fed Casey a back elbow for 1.
  • As Madril tagged in, he dealt Casey another shot between the eyes and distracted referee Ralph Pulley.
  • Adias, meanwhile, guillotined Casey with the top rope off-camera. SNEAKY!
  • After Adias tagged in, he gave Casey a cross corner whip but came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Madril tagged in, and the tag champs double-clotheslined Casey.
  • While Madril delivered a knee to the midsection, Adias tagged in and carved Casey in half with a backbreaker for 2.
  • Casey countered a side head lock with a belly-to-back suplex.
  • Tagging in, Madril split Casey’s uprights. That would ruin his Saturday night plans.
  • Casey performed a headstand and took Madril down with a headscissors.
  • Headed to the heel corner, a dazed Casey hooked an inside cradle.
  • Adias had already tagged in, so he snap-suplexed Casey for 2.
  • Rejoining the match, Madril rammed Casey into the top turnbuckle twice but ate it himself upon a third try.
  • Madril reversed an Irish whip, but Casey ducked a clothesline.
  • Hot tag Doll.
  • He gave Madril a cross corner whip but ate a clothesline on his follow-through.
  • Taking his turn, Adias wiped out Doll with a side-Russian leg sweep.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Adias and Madril won at 7:39.

Summary: Doll’s involvement gave away the finish because the heels quickly demolished him once he tagged in.

At ringside, Mercer interviews Kevin who discusses a painting. We head to Fort Worth where Lowrance interviews Kevin and Mike. As Kevin describes a painting created by Warren George, he thanks the artist and requests an address to send a proper thank you.

Next, in a match between Madril and Simpson, Madril brandishes a foreign object and clobbers him with it for the pin. How dastardly! Following the match, Madril walks over to where Lowrance was sitting, removes the painting from under the ring, SMASHES it against the ring post, and rips it to shreds.

In the darkest section of the arena, Mike brawls with Madril until Adias joins the melee. The heels double-team Mike, but Kevin rushes in to rescue his brother. After the interview backdrop tumbles down, the Von Erichs chase the heels back beyond the cattle stalls.

At ringside, Mercer interviews Kerry and Mike. Right off the bat, Kerry mentions that his “leg is getting better every day.” He turns his attention to Madril and Adias and declares himself to be Mike’s manager. Touting his brother, he promises that Mike will “become a top contender for the World…title” and will be by his side. Mike, more confident than I’ve ever seen him, says he’s dedicated to becoming World champion.

Match 2: Steve Simpson versus “Killer” Tim Brooks

Highlights:

  • Simpson dropkicked Brooks into the corner, and the supportive Dallas faithful chanted “go, Steve go.”
  • As he monkey-flipped Brooks, Simpson ducked a clothesline and dropkicked him again.
  • He gave Brooks a cross corner whip and followed with a second monkey flip.
  • When he reversed a cross corner whip, Simpson ate boot on his follow-through.
  • Brooks attempted a leg drop, but Simpson evaded him.
  • After he mounted the top turnbuckle, Simpson scored with a cross body block.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Simpson won at 6:45.

Summary: Showcase match for Simpson.

Match 3: Master Gee (w/ Percy Pringle) versus Chuck West

Highlights:

  • For those unaware, West was not related to Adam West; otherwise, he’d also be Batman.
  • Gee clotheslined West and attempted an arrogant cover. So THAT’S where Jericho learned it!
  • When West couldn’t be pinned, Gee rubbed his face in the mat.
  • West gave Gee a cross corner whip but ate knee on his follow-through.
  • As he demolished West with a flying shoulder block, Gee cradled him.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Gee won at 2:13.

Rating: DUD

Summary:  Showcase match for Gee. Thank goodness, this match didn’t go south.

After the match, West got more punishment from both Gee and Pringle all for a lousy $50, I’d imagine.

Match 4: Lance Von Erich & Dingo Warrior versus Black Bart & Grappler

Highlights:

  • Black Bart gave him a cross corner whip, but Lance floated over, sprinted to the opposite corner, leaped to the second turnbuckle, and soared with a cross body block for 1.
  • As the Dallas faithful LOUDLY chanted “go, Lance, go,” tags were exchanged on both sides.
  • Warrior punted Grappler so hard that he achieved some hang time. Were the Dallas Cowboys watching?
  • When Black Bart hooked a full nelson, Warrior escaped and applied one of his own.
  • Black Bart tried to escape by putting both feet on the top rope.
  • After Warrior released the hold, Black Bart dropped like an anchor.
  • The babyfaces pinballed Black Bart in their corner until Grappler tagged in.
  • While Lance tagged in, he dropkicked Grappler for 1.
  • Lance hip-tossed Grappler who wanted no more of him.
  • Coming off the ropes, Lance ate a knee to the back from Grappler. Nefarious!
  • Black Bart guillotined Lance with the top rope and tagged out.
  • Clotheslining Lance, Grappler got 2.
  • He rammed Lance face-first into the mat for another 2.
  • Tagging in, Black Bart joined Grappler in a double back elbow.
  • Lance hooked a sunset flip, but Black Bart fed him a knuckle sandwich. Try the veal.
  • Hooking a swinging neckbreaker, Black Bart landed a leg drop but couldn’t get 3.
  • Grappler tagged in, whipped Lance into the corner, but came up empty.
  • Hot tag Warrior.
  • He backdropped Grappler and followed with a big boot.
  • Giving Grappler a cross corner whip, Warrior followed with a corner clothesline.
  • Lance tagged in, and the babyfaces double-backdropped Grappler.
  • Seeing Black Bart trying to interfere, Lance dropkicked him back where he came from.
  • Lance dropkicked Grappler and tagged in Warrior.
  • With Lance leapfrogging Grappler, Warrior blasted Grappler with a Sledgehammer.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Warrior and Lance won at 9:32.

Rating: **

Summary: Elongated showcase match for Lance and Warrior.

Conclusion:  Two items highlighted this episode with Kerry’s mentorship of his younger brother Mike as well as Madril’s destruction of a family portrait. With four Von Erichs gracing our screens, 1987 looks like it’s ready to shine.

Next week, Lance and Warrior battle the Maniac and the Master!
