Can Shaun defeat Embry and become a singles champion? Will Atlas beat Perez to earn another title shot? What on God’s green Earth is the Thing?

Opening montage.

Match 1: The Thing (w/ “Killer” Tim Brooks) versus Rick Hazzard

Highlights:

  • For those unaware, Thing was portrayed by Rip Morgan—former flag bearer for the Sheepherders.
  • And for those curious, the REAL bell returned to WCCW.
  • Thing mauled Hazzard, headbutted him, and landed a leg drop, brother.
  • When Percy Pringle arrived to get a glimpse of Brooks’, uh, Thing, he joined Lowrance at the broadcast table.
  • Thing scored with a knee drop and picked up Hazzard at 1.
  • In case you’re curious for more, an ESPN banner hung behind Lowrance and Pringle.
  • Thing missed a haymaker, so Hazzard fed him a belly-to-back suplex.
  • As Thing no-sold it, the Dallas faithful chanted “go, Rick, go.”
  • Hazzard clotheslined Thing, gave him a cross corner whip, but came up empty on his follow-through.
  • When Thing applied an abdominal claw, he pinned Hazzard at 4:31.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for Thing, and Hazzard was all too happy to sell for him.

Match 2: Brian Adias (w/ “Playboy” Vince Apollo) versus Vic Steamboat

Highlights:

  • In case you’re wondering, Apollo partnered with Gary Hart to form New Age Management; thus, Apollo seconded Adias for this match.
  • “Gentleman” Chris Adams joined the broadcast table.
  • As he fed Steamboat a snap mare, Adias missed a knee drop.
  • He dealt Steamboat a shot to the midsection, took him down with another snap mare, and got 2.
  • When Steamboat gave Adias a cross corner whip, he ate knee on his follow-through.
  • Adias attempted a Dim Chang, but his hand hadn’t completely healed.
  • Therefore, he hurt himself instead of Steamboat.
  • Speaking of Steamboat, he unloaded a ten-punch count-along, but Adias knocked him silly.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Adias won at 4:23.

Rating: **

Summary: Showcase match for Adias as Steamboat pays some dues.

Backstage, Lowrance interviews Kevin who cuts a promo on Adias and Perez. We see highlights from the Cotton Bowl where Kevin captured the World title thanks in part to Kerry. Finishing his promo, Kevin has his sights set on Hart.

SPECIAL REPORT: On October 17 at the Cotton Bowl, Kevin pinned Perez for the WCCW World title. Although referee Bronko Lubich declared Kevin the winner, the WCWA Board of Governors reversed the decision after the fact.

Did Fritz never hear of what happened to the AWA after Verne screwed Hogan and the Minneapolis faithful?

Match 3 (non-title): WCWA World champion Al Perez (w/ “Playboy” Vince Apollo) versus Tony Atlas

Highlights:

  • Since the match is non-title, Atlas chose to wear his Superman garb.
  • Hart joined the broadcast table for this match.
  • When he rolled up Atlas, Perez got 2.
  • Atlas mounted the second turnbuckle and stymied Perez with a head butt.
  • As Perez rebounded with a rope-assisted spinning toe hold, referee John Keaton noticed the shenanigans and forced him to break the hold.
  • He reapplied the hold while grabbing the top rope with only two minutes left.
  • After Atlas mounted the second turnbuckle, he launched a flying elbow smash.
  • Atlas broke Perez’s wishbone with the ring post, and the bell rang.
  • While it could have been a disqualification, Keaton ruled the bout a time-limit draw at 8:31.

Rating: ***

Summary: Much better match between these two as Atlas both sold extremely well for Perez’s psychology and chased after him with an improved arsenal.

After the match, Atlas grabs the microphone and wants five more minutes. He pleads with the Dallas faithful, and Hart leaves the broadcast table to object alongside Apollo. Although Atlas removes the top portion of his costume, Hart and Apollo usher the World champion away to battle another day.

THE HART ATTACK: Apollo brings Hart to New Age Management’s office. As “Jim” describes all the tapes, notes, and press releases located in the storeroom as research, Apollo takes Hart into his office. On the door, the motto “Gunfighters don’t charge by the bullet” is hung on the door. Hart advises Apollo to fire “Jim” before requesting more diversity in the office. Detailing his return home to Chicago, Hart mentions being inundated with Von Erich memorabilia much to his disgust. He also advises Apollo to recruit non-Americans for their stable.

Now we head to the Cotton Bowl!

Match 4 for the WCWA Light Heavyweight title: Eric Embry (champion) versus Shaun Simpson (w/ Steve Simpson)

Highlights:

  • Like last week, Lowrance shilled a card that happens NEXT WEEK in Houston. SMH
  • Following a clip, Shaun shoved down referee John Keaton who called for the bell.
  • Embry won by DQ at 1:54 shown.

Rating: NONE

Summary: More angle than match as you will see.

Following the match, Shaun brawls with Embry on the turf and rams him face-first into the steps. He makes Embry HIT THE POLE, grabs the belt from Keaton, and CROWNS Embry with it. As Steve restrains his younger brother, Embry holds his belt high to a chorus of boos.

For the third week in a row, Steve Corey makes his presence known being interviewed by Lowrance this time. He discusses corporate sponsorship helping to lower ticket prices before segueing to the “America Cracks Down” campaign against illegal drugs.
