Opening montage.
Lowrance opens the show alongside ring announcer Ralph Pulley who’s excited for the first confrontation between Kevin and Perez since the title change.
Match 1: “Flamboyant” Eric Embry versus Perry Jackson
Highlights:
- Holy schnikes! The Sportatorium looked dark and rather empty.
- For those curious, this would be the first instance of a standard ring bell in WCCW instead of the one they’ve chimed for years.
- When Embry slammed him, he missed an elbow drop.
- He fed Jackson a knee lift, ate an arm drag, but flattened him with a lariat.
- As he suplexed Jackson, Embry mounted the second turnbuckle and unleashed a flying head butt for 1.
- A-ha! He pulled Jackson up and dealt him a piledriver.
- 1-2-3.
- Embry won at 1:43.
Rating: ½*
Summary: Showcase match for Embry.
Match 2: “Killer” Tim Brooks (w/ Percy Pringle) versus Vic Steamboat
Highlights:
- Steamboat leapfrogged Brooks and followed with a dropkick.
- As he connected with a cross body block, Steamboat got 2.
- Brooks sent Steamboat between the ropes onto Pulley’s table and joined him.
- When he bounced Steamboat face-first twice off the table, more empty seats were shown. Yikes!
- Steamboat was BUSTED OPEN!
- After Brooks slammed Steamboat, he landed a leg drop for 2, brother.
- Steamboat rebounded with a flurry and scored with a flying forearm smash.
- While Brooks got knocked the fuck out and down to the floor, referee Bronko Lubich counted him out.
- Steamboat won by countout at 6:21.
Rating: *
Summary: Steamboat’s trying to get his “martial arts” style over as his offense like his brother. Despite the blood, the match lacked genuine chemistry and felt flat.
After the match, Pulley interviews Steamboat who says he’s not afraid to fight fire with fire in the ring.
KERRY’S KORNER: Sitting in his home gym, Kerry promises his comeback will be great: “40,000-50,000 people in Texas Stadium, going all over this country.”
Prior to the next match, Apollo grabs the microphone and touts himself instead of Tony this time.
Match 3: Al Madril & Manuel Villalobos versus “Playboy” Vince Apollo & Cowboy Tony
Highlights:
- Villalobos gave Apollo a cross corner whip but ate boot on his follow-through.
- When Apollo missed an elbow drop, the “Thumper” Frankie Lancaster joined the broadcast table.
- Apollo slammed Villalobos, and tags were exchanged on both sides.
- As Madril baited the heels into some miscommunication, he catapulted Apollo into Tony.
- The Dallas faithful chided Tony about his alleged bedroom habits, but tags were exchanged on both sides again.
- After the heels gave him a cross corner whip, Villalobos floated over them, leaped to the opposite second turnbuckle, and uncorked a double cross body block. Neat!
- Apollo countered a side head lock with a belly-to-back suplex followed by a sidewalk slam.
- While Tony tagged in, he dealt Villalobos a lariat for 2.
- Villalobos celebrated with a 360°. Woohoo!
- Although Apollo tagged in and attempted a back drop, Villalobos punted him.
- Lukewarm tag Madril.
- Upon Madril’s conducting a meeting of the minds, all four wrestlers were in the ring.
- The babyfaces rammed the heels together, and Tony went reeling down to the floor.
- Clotheslining Apollo, Madril only got 1.
- Villalobos tagged in and dealt Apollo a flying back elbow for another 1.
- Tagging in, Madril dropkicked Apollo and got 2.
- Lancaster left the broadcast table much to Lowrance’s surprise and jumped into the ring to attack Madril and Villalobos.
- As a result, referee John Keaton called for the bell to disqualify Apollo and Tony.
- Madril and Villalobos won by DQ at 5:47.
Rating: **
Summary: Maybe it’s the smaller crowd, but this match lacked emotion and charisma.
Following the match, the heels dominate Madril and Villalobos 3-on-2. Tony guillotines Madril with the top rope while Lancaster, in street clothes, pounds Villalobos into goo.
Pulley interviews Madril who has a buddy down in Mexico who can even the odds. Methinks this guy might wear multiple luchador masks.
WORLD CLASS WRESTLER PROFILE: ERASED by the WWE Network.
Match 4: Al Perez & Brian Adias (w/ Ninja) versus Kevin Von Erich & “Maniac” Matt Borne
Highlights:
- Tags were exchanged on both sides, but Adias missed a fist drop.
- As he powerslammed Adias, Kevin attempted to break Adias’ thumb.
- Perez tagged in, but Kevin escaped an arm bar with a dropkick.
- When Borne tagged in, he dropkicked Perez.
- Adias tagged in, and the heels fed Borne a double back elbow for 2.
- After Kevin interjected himself towards him, he and Borne tossed Adias down to the floor.
- Borne held Adias’ right hand against the aforementioned ring bell, but Kevin missed with a chair shot. The shot was so violent that the chair BROKE!
- While Kevin tagged in, he mounted the top turnbuckle, leaped, but there wasn’t any water in the pool.
- Tags were exchanged on both sides again, and Perez hooked an inside cradle for 2.
- Reversing momentum, Borne got 2.
- Borne hooked a backslide for another 2.
- Tagging in, Kevin gave Perez a cross corner whip followed by a flying headscissors.
- He cradled and pinned Perez; thus, Kevin and Borne won at 8:07.
Rating: **½
Summary: Quite the grudge match as the babyfaces had their eyes on breaking Adias’ thumb. Nevertheless, Kevin used wisely high-flying to score the victory over the World champion. I smell an upcoming title match.
Afterward, Kevin grabs the microphone and talks about giving his word.
- When he put Chris Adams in the hospital back in ’84.
- When he busted Brian Adias open in Mesquite last month.
- When he’ll break Adias’ thumb.
Conclusion: Once again, Kevin stands out as the top guy in the promotion while the heels run scared from him. Madril and Villalobos require help against Tony’s men and are currently recruiting. With some ire, Steamboat destroys Brooks while Embry piledrives his way to victory. Let’s hope the crowds pick up in future tapings.
Next week, Atlas, Sweet Brown Sugar, & Spoiler square off against Arcidi, Adias, & Ninja!
