How will the Fantastics fare against the RPMs? Who will be in each team’s corner? Can Huber defeat the newcomer Perez? Will SBS make it 2-for-2 against Adias? Who in the blue hell is Atlas’ opponent?
Opening montage.
Match 1: Tony Atlas versus Boy Tony (w/ “Gentleman” Jim Holliday)
Highlights:
- For those unaware, Tony was portrayed by Tony Falk who was last seen in Continental. Yes, he was dressed and made up effeminately, possibly to mimic the recording artist Boy George.
- Immediately, the Dallas faithful chided Tony concerning his alleged bedroom habits.
- Tony hip-tossed Atlas twice and pranced around the ring.
- When Atlas hip-tossed him, he followed with a back drop.
- Holliday distracted Atlas allowing Tony to cheat.
- As Atlas no-sold a thumb to the throat, he gave Tony a cross corner whip that resulted in a chest-first bump.
- He slammed Tony, but Holliday tripped him unbeknownst to referee Rick Hazzard.
- After Tony mounted the top turnbuckle, Atlas caught and slammed him down to the mat.
- He splashed and pinned Tony at 3:31.
Rating: *
Summary: Showcase match for Atlas. To say the least, Tony had ZERO physique whatsoever.
Match 2: Brian Adias (w/ “Gentleman” Jim Holliday) versus Sweet Brown Sugar
Highlights:
- Adias fed SBS a back elbow but missed an elbow drop.
- As SBS reversed a cross corner whip, he hip-tossed Adias for 2.
- The Dallas faithful chanted “we want Al,” yet their nemesis dealt SBS a knee to the midsection.
- Sorry, Al, but my name’s not Tim.
- When he hip-tossed SBS, Adias clotheslined him for 1.
- SBS rebounded with a slam, mounted the top turnbuckle, but Holliday sent him careening down to the mat. Meanwhile, Adias distracted referee Ralph Pulley. SNEAKY!
- 1-2-3.
- Adias won at 5:35.
Rating: **
Summary: Since SBS got the duke at the spectacular, it made sense for Adias to win the return match albeit by chicanery.
After the match, Hazzard approaches the ring and confers with Pulley. Madril, in the meantime, sneaks up on Holliday from behind and pops him. Once Adias thinks twice about swapping fists with Madril. SBS tosses Holliday back into the ring, and Madril turns him into popcorn. Ultimately, Pulley reverses his decision, Young wins by DQ, and he and Madril shake hands to great appreciation from the Dallas faithful.
Match 3: Cousin Junior versus Barry Collie
Highlights:
- For inexplicable reasons, Mercer referred to Junior as Roscoe. Methinks WWF may have given Jerry McDevitt a call to notify WCWA about copyright infringement.
- Nevertheless, Junior backdropped Collie and followed with a hip toss.
- Junior scored with a thrust kick, nailed Collie with a modified senton, and pinned him at 1:59.
Rating: DUD
Summary: Showcase match for Junior.
At ringside, Mercer interviews Bruiser Brody who’s carrying an aluminum trash can. Brody clarifies that within his contract if he defeated Jeep Swenson, he could remain in Texas. As Mercer questions him about Red River Jack, Brody advises him that Jack says hello. HA! With both Nord and Swenson gone, Brody’s focus is fixed upon Gary Hart.
Match 4: Al Perez (w/ Gary Hart) versus Spike Huber
Highlights:
- Huber clobbered him so hard that Perez spilled over the top rope to the floor.
- As the match segued to the floor, Huber made Perez HIT THE POLE.
- Perez ate a hip toss, gave Huber a cross corner whip, but came up empty on his follow-through.
- When he powerslammed Huber, Perez got 2.
- He hip-tossed Huber for another 2.
- After he gave Huber another cross corner whip, Perez came up empty again.
- Huber rolled him up for 2.
- While he slammed Perez, Huber missed an elbow drop.
- He uncorked a standing dropkick and blocked a backslide.
- Slamming Huber, Perez whiffed on an elbow drop attempt.
- Huber placed a knee into the midsection allowing Perez to celebrate with a 360°. Woohoo!
- Catching Perez with a slam, Huber reversed an Irish whip but got bowled over. That did NOT look crisp.
- Perez trapped him in a spinning toe hold, but Huber wouldn’t submit.
- Charging, Huber ate knee, so Perez pinned him with his feet on the top rope. Crafty!
- Perez won at 8:02.
Rating: **
Summary: Despite a couple instances of poor timing, Perez’s shenanigans paid dividends.
Prior to the main event, Fulton interrupts Lowrance and announces that Borne will be in the champions’ corner to keep an eye on the RPMs’ new manager.
Match 5 for the WCWA World tag team titles: The Fantastics (champions w/ “Maniac” Matt Borne) versus the Rock’n’Roll RPMs (w/ Percy Pringle)
Highlights:
- Fulton reversed a cross corner whip and backdropped Lane.
- When he slammed Lane, Davis interjected himself only to get slammed too.
- Fulton backdropped Lane again and tagged out.
- As Rogers dropkicked Lane, Davis tagged in, got reversed on a cross corner whip, and ate a hip toss.
- Fulton tagged in and monkey-flipped Davis.
- After Lane tagged in, he slammed Fulton and got 2.
- Rogers tagged in and hip-tossed Lane.
- While Fulton tagged in, the Fantastics broke the wishbone on Lane and decked Davis.
- They double-backdropped Lane, and Fulton got 2.
- Tagging in, Rogers came off the ropes but ate a kick from Davis. How dastardly!
- Davis tagged in, slammed Rogers, and fed him a backbreaker for 2.
- Rejoining the match, Lane dealt Rogers a second backbreaker for another 2.
- Lane backdropped Rogers but couldn’t get 3.
- Getting his chance, Davis suplexed Rogers for yet another 2.
- Lane tagged in, delivered a vertical suplex, and earned 2.
- With Davis back in, Rogers thwarted a back drop attempt but missed an elbow drop.
- Rogers halted another back drop attempt and made the…
- Hot tag Fulton.
- Upon cleaning house, Fulton got tripped coming off the ropes by Pringle. Devious!
- Lane covered, but Rogers made a save.
- To even the score, Borne tripped Davis coming off the ropes. Of course, referee Bronko Lubich was oblivious to all the tomfoolery.
- 1-2-3.
- The Fantastics retained at 8:16.
Rating: ***
Summary: Decent match where the heat segment drew the Dallas faithful into the match, and the storyline influenced the finish to a proper conclusion and reaction.
Following the match, Pringle pleads with Lubich to no avail.
Conclusion: Without an active Von Erich currently, WCWA tries to build both Borne and Madril as pure babyfaces. We’ll see how that goes. Speaking of babyfaces, the Fantastics continue to show how great they are while the RPMs are a formidable heel team.
Also, Perez found a clever way to beat Huber while Junior’s undergone a name change to Roscoe. Brody still has his sights set on Hart, but Holliday finds out how tough being in World Class truly is. Finally, Boy Tony makes his WCWA debut but eats the pin against Atlas.
Next week, Perez battles Simpson.
