Can Mascaras and Madril capture the World tag team titles? What’s on the World champion’s mind? Plus, Borne, Embry, and Arcidi! It’s World Class fever, folks! Catch it!

Opening montage.

Match 1 (non-title): WCWA Texas champion “Maniac” Matt Borne versus Tug Taylor

Highlights:

  • Otherwise known as Tugboat, Taylor had previously competed in Mid-South and Central States prior to his appearance. Please don’t confuse this man with Uncle Fred.
  • “Playboy” Vince Apollo joined the broadcast table for this match just to annoy me.
  • When Lowrance shilled the Von Erich Family Album, Taylor slammed Borne.
  • Lowrance shilled an upcoming show at the New Orleans Superdome on 1/8/88, but it may not have transpired.
  • As Borne dropkicked him, Taylor reversed a cross corner whip but ate boot on his follow-through.
  • Borne mounted the top turnbuckle and scored with a flying senton splash.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Borne won at 2:45.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for Borne.

Match 2 (non-title): WCWA Light Heavyweight champion Eric Embry versus Terry Hayes

Highlights:

  • The Dallas faithful chanted “Eric-a” at Embry, and Lowrance shilled a potentially non-existent show coming to Houston on 1/9.
  • As Embry countered a side head lock with a belly-to-back suplex, he clocked Hayes for 1.
  • He suplexed Hayes before connecting with a slingshot suplex.
  • When Hayes countered a back drop attempt with a knee lift, Embry retaliated with a clothesline.
  • He piledrove Hayes, mounted the second turnbuckle, and soared with a diving head butt.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Embry won at 4:48.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for Embry who could use more muscle development.

Match 3: Ted Arcidi (w/ Percy Pringle) versus Super Pole

Highlights:

  • Speaking of muscle development, Arcidi reversed an Irish whip and clotheslined Pole.
  • He fed Pole a knee lift and rammed him face-first into the mat.
  • When he slammed Pole, Arcidi landed a pair of knee drops for 2.
  • He clotheslined Pole and slammed him again.
  • As he planted Pole with an elbow drop, Arcidi picked him up at 2.
  • He dealt Pole another knee lift and powerslammed him to end this dreck.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Arcidi won at 4:24.

Rating: DUD

Summary: Showcase match for Arcidi.

POINT OF ORDER: Arcidi left pro wrestling around this time to seek other opportunities. He would resurface as an actor with roles in The Fighter, Law & Order, Nurse Jackie, and 30 Rock. Despite his obviously steroid-assisted build, Arcidi has remained among us. Best of luck, Ted!

WORLD CLASS REPLAY: We revisit the Adams-Perez match two weeks ago making me quite ecstatic. If you’ve not seen it, you owe it to yourself to do so. Of course, the Dusty Finish ruins Adams’ regaining the World title much to my disgust.

WORLD CLASS WRESTLER PROFILE: World champion Al Perez details the beginning of his career and his relationship with Gary Hart. In true heel fashion, Perez is shown being given the check at a restaurant, passing it over to his lady friend, and instructing her to pay for it.

Match 4 for the WCWA World tag team titles: Brian Adias & the “Thumper” Frankie Lancaster (champions w/ “Playboy” Vince Apollo) versus Mil Mascaras & Al Madril

Highlights:

  • Tags were exchanged on both sides, and Mascaras backdropped Adias.
  • As Lancaster tagged in, Mascaras stymied him with a hip toss and arm drag.
  • Tags were exchanged on both sides again, but Adias missed a knee drop.
  • Between Madril and Mascaras, Adias got bounced off three top turnbuckles, and Madril got 2.
  • Lancaster tagged in, yet Madril attempted a sunset flip.
  • When Lancaster fed him a knuckle sandwich, he landed a leg drop, brother.
  • Adias tagged in and slammed Madril for 2.
  • After Lancaster tagged in, he scored with a high knee for another 2.
  • Adias tagged in and placed a knee into Madril’s midsection.
  • While Madril rolled to the floor, Lancaster creamed his corn.
  • Lancaster tagged in, kicked Madril in the midsection, but couldn’t get 3.
  • Suplexing Madril, Lancaster earned yet another 2.
  • Adias tagged in and distracted referee Bronko Lubich.
  • Nefariously, Lancaster guillotined Madril with the top rope.
  • Adias baited Mascaras into the ring, so Adias cheated like a mofo. SNEAKY!
  • Tagging in, Lancaster got reversed on an Irish whip and ate a back drop.
  • Lancaster prevented a hot tag, mounted the second turnbuckle, but Madril crotched him on the top rope.
  • Hot tag Mascaras.
  • Conducting a meeting of the minds, Mascaras dealt Lancaster an atomic drop.
  • He demolished Lancaster with a flying head butt and got 2.
  • Tying Lancaster up like a pretzel, Mascaras avoided a double team and picked up the 7-10 split.
  • All four wrestlers were in the ring, and referee Bronko Lubich called for the bell.
  • As a result, he ruled the match a double disqualification at 11:59.
  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • Lancaster and Adias retained.

Rating: ***

Summary: Fun main event that followed the tag formula but lacked a definitive finish.
