Airdate: November 1, 1998
Attendance: 5,800 (4,700 paid)
Hosted by Joey Styles
Can Taz, Sabu, and RVD overtake the Triple Threat? What’s going on with Funk? Who’ll be Dreamer’s partner against Credible and Victory? Will the Dudley Boys retain the World tag team titles? Will this truly be a November to remember?
Earlier tonight, Jack Victory arrived with Lance Wright but was ambushed by New Jack until ECW Security arrived to break it up. That was basically a mugging caught on tape, folks.
In the ring, Styles runs down the card, yet Terry Funk emerges from the empty nosebleed sections while wearing a graduation cap. As he enters the ring, Funk calls him an “asshole.” HA! He riles up the New Orleans faithful and tells Styles, Paul E, and Dreamer: “Funk You!” When Funk runs him down, Dreamer emerges and stands before Funk. More cursing by Funk occurs before he threatens Dreamer and throws the microphone at him. According to Styles, Funk’s insulted that Dreamer didn’t ask him to be his partner.
Opening montage.
Match 1: Super Nova & the Blue Meanie versus “Dastardly” Danny Doring & Roadkill
Highlights:
- Funk returned with a cameraman, and Nova face-planted Doring.
- When Meanie tagged in, Funk assaulted timekeeper Stephen DeAngelis and took his seat at ringside. Quite the criminal promotion here, no?
- Roadkill tagged in but fell victim to a hangman’s neckbreaker by Meanie.
- As Nova tagged in, the bWo fed Roadkill a slam/leapfrog leg drop combo for 2. Innovative!
- Doring tried to make the save but unloaded an elbow drop onto Roadkill instead.
- After the bWo destroyed Doring with a double spinebuster a.k.a. the Super-Duper Double Looper, Meanie got 2. Styles’ words, not mine.
- More heel miscommunication happened via a Roadkill splash of Doring, and a shoving match broke out.
- While Doring begged for forgiveness, Nova dropkicked him. In the process, Doring’s head nailed Roadkill WAY DOWNTOWN.
- Meanie bulldogged Roadkill and teased a plancha.
- On the other hand, he held the ropes open, and Nova obliterated the heels with a tope suicida.
- Meanie slammed and flattened Roadkill with the People’s Leg Drop. HA!
- Inserting himself into someone else’s business, Funk jumped onto the apron and slapped the BEJEEZUS out of Meanie.
- Speaking of Meanie, he retaliated, and Funk sold it like DEATH.
- Adding more comedy to the already comedic opener, Funk put himself through the timekeeper’s table.
- Doring dealt Nova a facecrusher, and Roadkill followed with a big boot.
- Although Doring delivered an elbow drop to Nova, Funk decimated the broken table for no discernable reason.
- The heels hit some double-team moves on Nova, but the camera focused on Funk.
- Annihilating Nova with a clothesline, Roadkill powerslammed him.
- He mounted the top turnbuckle and launched an impressive flying splash.
- Mounting the opposite top turnbuckle, Roadkill missed a flying elbow drop.
- Doring tagged in and baited Meanie into the ring.
- Scoring with a Stroke a.k.a. the G-spot sweet, Doring got 2.
- He mounted the top turnbuckle and leveled Nova with a guillotine leg drop for another 2.
- Getting reversed on an Irish whip, Nova countered a back drop with a powerbomb a.k.a. Sledge-O-Matic.
- Tags were exchanged on both sides, and Meanie snap-suplexed Doring.
- Whipping Roadkill into Doring, the bWo sandwiched Roadkill thanks to a Meanie avalanche.
- He slammed Doring and mounted the top turnbuckle.
- To ensure that Doring remained down, Nova demolished him with a frog splash.
- Meanie soared with a Meaniesault but only got 2 thanks to a save by Roadkill.
- That should have been the finish.
- Nevertheless, Roadkill reversed a cross corner whip but came up empty on his follow-through.
- Nova obliterated Roadkill with a modified tornado DDT, and the bWo wiped out Doring with a Blue Light Special.
- 1-2-3.
- The bWo won at 10:55.
Rating: ***
Summary: I still say the Meaniesault should have been the finish as it popped the New Orleans faithful.
After the match, Funk re-enters the ring and clobbers the bWo with a remnant of the table. Even though Nova is recuperating at ringside, Funk grabs and makes him HIT THE POLE. Uncle Paul pleads with Funk to halt the carnage, but Funk’s dangerous and crazy.
Thus far, Funk is the star of the show. And they say ECW doesn’t create new stars.
After introductions but before the bell, Tommy Rich grabs the microphone and runs down the local sports teams. Rogers retorts by calling Little Guido a “flunky.”
Match 2: Tommy Rogers (w/ Chris Chetti) versus Tracy Smothers (w/ the FBI & Ulf Herman)
Highlights:
- Herman tripped Rogers coming off the ropes, so Chetti reciprocated by tripping Smothers. HA!
- As he fed Rogers a back elbow, Smothers unleashed a standing spinning heel kick.
- He dealt Rogers a reverse enziguri followed by a cross corner whip.
- When Rogers leaped to the second turnbuckle, he mounted the top turnbuckle and uncorked a missile dropkick to ZERO pop.
- He clotheslined Smothers over the top rope to the concrete floor and connected with a baseball slide.
- After Smothers reversed an Irish whip, Little Guido distracted referee John “Pee Wee” Moore.
- Herman took advantage and demolished Rogers with a springboard clothesline.
- While Chetti brawled with him at ringside, he made Herman HIT THE POLE.
- Rich jumped onto the apron to distract Moore, so Guido and Smothers double-teamed Rogers. SNEAKY!
- Since it’s Smothers’ turn to distract Moore, Guido took more liberties with Rogers. How dastardly!
- Smothers floored Rogers with a kick and got 2.
- Once again, Rich distracted Moore, so another double-team on Rogers occurred. Nefarious!
- The FBI connected on a double elbow, and Smothers got another 2.
- To generate even a peep from the New Orleans faithful, Rich taunted them on the microphone.
- Rogers rebounded with a side-Russian leg sweep but missed an elbow drop.
- In the meantime, the New Orleans faithful sought jambalaya and hurricanes.
- Smothers ate knees on a splash attempt, so Rogers blasted him in the midsection before scoring with a knee lift.
- Dropkicking Smothers, Rogers noticed Rich on the apron and delivered one to him.
- Guido jumped onto the opposite apron, ate a dropkick from Rogers, and tasted the steel railing. It must have tasted like whatever the New Orleans faithful was munching on.
- Nonetheless, Rogers powerslammed Smothers, mounted the top turnbuckle, leaped, but there wasn’t any water in the pool.
- Smothers attempted an Oklahoma roll, but Rogers was in the ropes.
- Mounting the top turnbuckle, Smothers launched a cross body block, but Rogers used momentum to land on top for 2.
- Smothers objected to Moore, so Rogers rolled him up for another 2.
- Countering a belly-to-back suplex with his trick knee, Smothers slammed Rogers for 2.
- Guido jumped onto the apron AGAIN, and heel miscommunication almost reared its ugly head.
- Instead, Rogers flattened Smothers with a Tomikaze and pinned him at 7:51.
Rating: **
Summary: Too much interference, ZERO reaction apart from the sarcastic applause at the end, and not a hint of chemistry equals the equivalent of a popcorn match. Perhaps include some dirty rice mixed in for flavor.
After the match, Smothers blames Guido for the loss and shoves him. Rogers roots for the dissension in the ranks until Rich creams him with the Italian flag. Returning from the locker room, Chetti picks up the 7-10 split by decimating Guido and Smothers with a springboard double clothesline. He slams Rich, migrates to the apron, and connects with a double rope moonsault. Impressive! To add insult to injury to the FBI, Rogers counts the pinfall.
Next, Herman brings Mabel wearing an FBI shirt to the ring. They destroy Rogers and Chetti, and Herman whips the 500 lb. Mabel into an avalanche of Chetti. If that’s not enough, Herman crushes Chetti with a Muscle Buster followed by a Mabel leg drop a.k.a. Undertaker face remover. Herman pulls a table from underneath the ring and sets it up.
When they place Chetti atop the table, Spike Dudley sprints from the locker room but gets annihilated by Herman. He places Spike on the table, and Mabel tries to turn him into gumbo. As Spike escapes, Mabel puts himself through the table. Knocking Herman silly, Spike gives Mabel a ten-punch count-along, uses Mabel as a springboard, and plants Herman with an Acid Drop. Oddly, Moore tries to count the pin, but Mabel splashes Herman inadvertently.
Spike nails Mabel WAY DOWNTOWN and dismantles him with an Acid Drop. With Mabel atop Herman, Spike sits atop both wrestlers, and Moore counts the pinfall. That was more entertaining than the match!
Backstage, Axl Rotten alongside Balls Mahoney and Masato Tanaka cuts a promo on the Dudleys.
Match 3: Lance Storm (w/ Tammy Lynn Bytch) versus Jerry Lynn
Highlights:
- For those unaware, Bytch was portrayed by Dawn Marie.
- This match had TWO special guest referees—Mikey Whipwreck and Tammy Lynn Sytch a.k.a. Sunny.
- To kill even MORE time, Sytch removed her striped socks, put on white socks and white shoes, and flashed her ass. I bet that works in prison too.
- A chain wrestling exhibition by both wrestlers occupied the first couple minutes until Storm gorilla-pressed Lynn.
- When Lynn escaped, he hooked a sunset flip for 1.
- A series of pinfall attempts convened, yet neither wrestler achieved more than a two-count.
- As Lynn countered a belly-to-back suplex by using momentum to land on top, he got 2.
- POINT OF ORDER: Sytch wore a mini-skirt so short that she flashed the New Orleans faithful each time she knelt. The mostly male crowd ate it up with a spoon.
- Lynn gave Storm a cross corner whip resulting in a Storm flip.
- After they each missed a clothesline, Lynn bumped Storm causing him to taste the steel railing. Since the New Orleans faithful was too busy WOOOOOOOOO-ing the chops, I’ll say it must have tasted like the Avenger at Buffa’s Bar.
- Lynn took Storm down on the concrete floor with a flying headscissors, mounted the apron, and scored with a somersault plancha.
- While Storm rammed Lynn back-first into the steel railing, he made Lynn taste it. Waiter, could you give the blond-haired Minnesotan a Gotham Knight burger?
- Storm leaped to the top rope, launched a flying clothesline, and got 2 thanks to a count by Whipwreck.
- To entertain the horndogs in the crowd, Whipwreck stepped into the ring and lifted Sytch’s mini skirt for a moment. HA!
- Lynn fed Storm a cross body block and got 2.
- Reversing an Irish whip, Storm fell victim to another flying headscissors.
- Bytch held Lynn by the ankle, and Storm dropkicked him causing another bump against the steel railing. Waiter, more Gator balls, please!
- Attempting a springboard cross body block to the floor, Storm got hung up on the ropes but landed on Lynn. OUCH!
- Storm reversed a cross corner whip, yet Lynn floated over, hooked a sunset flip, and got 2.
- Connecting with a Stroke, Storm hooked a bow-and-arrow, but Lynn escaped.
- Storm dropkicked Lynn and applied a lip lock on Bytch to the dismay of the New Orleans faithful.
- Countering a powerbomb, Lynn secured another sunset flip for 2.
- Storm stymied Lynn with a superkick and got 2.
- Upon reversing an Irish whip, Lynn caught Storm in a sleeper.
- Storm escaped and applied one of his own, but Lynn countered with a belly-to-back suplex.
- Attempting a huracanrana, Storm felt the wrath of a Lynn powerbomb for 2.
- Lynn dealt Storm a front suplex and attempted a Pedigree.
- Although Storm escaped, Lynn succeeded on his second attempt for another 2.
- Lynn escaped a full nelson, but Storm dropped down on him for 2.
- Mounting the second turnbuckle, Storm got dropkicked out of the ring down to the concrete floor.
- Lynn mounted the top turnbuckle and launched a tope.
- Back in the ring, Storm crotched Lynn on the top turnbuckle, joined, and hooked a belly-to-back superplex. Wow!
- Bytch jumped onto the apron and antagonized Sytch.
- Disgusted, Sytch flipped Bytch into the ring.
- Sytch took Bytch down with a snapmare and removed her top to reveal her bra.
- Next, she removed Bytch’s skirt to reveal panties.
- The horndogs in the crowd rejoiced.
- Upon shoving down Sytch, Whipwreck planted Bytch with a Whippersnapper.
- Lynn prevented Whipwreck from destroying Sytch, so Whipwreck wiped him out with a Whippersnapper.
- Going WAY DOWNTOWN on Whipwreck, Storm covered Lynn but only 2 thanks to an extremely slow count by Sytch.
- Storm dealt Lynn a trick knee, but Sytch laid Storm out with her own Whippersnapper.
- Not to be outdone, Whipwreck returned and flattened Sytch with a Whippersnapper.
- Lynn trapped Storm with an inside cradle, but Whipwreck turned it over.
- 1-2-3.
- Storm won at 16:48.

Summary: That’s the highest I can go with all the shenanigans surrounding the awesome wrestling. While I understand that a one-on-one match between these two could have been a scientific classic, the plot surrounding the match told the real story and decided the outcome.
At the broadcast table, Funk returns to apologize for being an “ass.” Apparently, he’s “leaving ECW forever.”
Video airs featuring the feud between Credible and Dreamer.
Prior to the next match, Bubba Ray stakes his claim as a four-time World tag team champion. Gertner gets his turn and makes lewd sexual humor. After the introductions, Rotten grabs the microphone and riles up the New Orleans faithful by running down the Louisiana State Athletic Commission.

- After he launched a frog splash, Mahoney got 2.
- Bubba Ray came in, ate a shot WAY DOWNTOWN followed by a kick that sent him over the top rope down to the concrete floor.
- While D-Von charged, the challengers double-backdropped him over the top rope; however, Bubba Ray caught him before splatting on the concrete.
- Thanks to Mahoney, Tanaka implemented a springboard plancha onto them.
- Mahoney mounted the top turnbuckle, considered flying, but thought better once Big Dick got in his way. That sounded dirty.
- Returning to the ring, Bubba Ray delivered a tope con hilo to the challengers on the concrete floor.
- Tanaka rammed Bubba Ray oblique-first into the steel railing, charged, and CREAMED him with a chair.
- Connecting with a pair of spinning elbows, Tanaka attempted a third but inadvertently annihilated referee Jim Molineaux.
- Tanaka blasted Bubba Ray with another spinning elbow, but Big Dick entered the ring and hooked him in a Torture Rack slam.
- Climbing into the ring, Rotten swung a chair and devastated Big Dick.
- He CROWNED Big Dick with it knocking him into the middle of 1999.
- Jumping into the ring, Sign Guy rattled Rotten with his sign, and he and Gertner double-teamed him.
- Mahoney returned and demolished Sign Guy with a Nutcracker Suite.
- Thinking he hurt Mahoney with a chair shot to the head, Gertner turned around, panicked like he impregnated the entire cheerleading squad, yet somehow avoided decapitation.
- All four wrestlers stood in the ring wielding chairs, and the champs got the first lick in with them.
- No-selling the chair shots, the challengers earned another crowning achievement in their careers.
- They no-sold it briefly but got crucified with shot #3.
- Ducking more chair shots, the challengers punched the chairs into the faces of the Dudley Boys.
- Referee Jeff Jones ran in to count the pin but “injured” his right arm before reaching 3.
- Upon feigning injury, Jones shoved down Molineaux.

- Taking exception to his jingoism, Rotten PLASTERED Jones with a chair shot.
- Mahoney set up for a big move, but Big Dick lowered the bridge sending him crashing to the concrete floor.
- Meanwhile, the Dudley Boys destroyed Tanaka with 3-D.
- 1-2-NO!
- The Dudley Boys argued in the ring as Rotten beat up Big Dick at ringside. And I thought the first instance was rather risqué.
- Trading slaps, the Dudley Boys fell victim to chair shots by the challengers.
- Do we have new champions?
- 1-2-NO!
- According to Styles, Big Dick had been handcuffed to the ring post. S&M in an ECW match? Who’da thunk it?
- Regardless, chairs were stacked mid-ring, and a Nutcracker Suite and tornado DDT by the challengers wiped out the Dudley Boys.
- 1-2-NO!
- Seriously?
- The Dudley Boys rebounded with shots WAY DOWNTOWN, and D-Von piledrove Mahoney on a chair.
- Planting Tanaka with a sit-out powerbomb, Bubba Ray sought tables.
- D-Von joined him, but his table was wrapped in camera cable and the bell. D’oh!
- Suddenly, RVD and Sabu stormed the ring with chairs, beat up the Dudley Boys and placed them atop the tables in the ring.
- They mounted opposite top turnbuckles, and a stereo leg drop/frog splash combo flattened the champs.
- 1-2-3.
- WE HAVE NEW CHAMPIONS!

- Well, at least it wasn’t Savio Vega, right?
- The heels charged Dreamer and Roberts but got clobbered.
- As the heels reversed stereo Irish whips, Dreamer and Roberts dealt them stereo knee lifts.
- Dreamer whipped Victory, and Roberts backdropped him onto the concrete floor.
- After they administered the same treatment to Credible, it’s obvious that something went awry.
- Dreamer flattened all the heels minus Chastity and Bass with a plancha.
- While there’s something seriously wrong with Victory, Dreamer tossed Credible back into the ring.
- Wright and Jason tried to trip Dreamer coming off the ropes but ate a baseball slide.
- Evading an elbow drop attempt by Credible, Dreamer returned to the concrete floor.
- He held Wright and Jason at bay as Roberts fed Credible an inverted atomic drop.
- Upon getting clotheslined over the top rope to the concrete floor, Credible crotched Dreamer on the steel railing. Poor Beulah.
- He sent Dreamer reeling to the ramp and baited Roberts into the ring.

- The New Orleans faithful chanted “D-D-T,” and stereo short-arm clotheslines were distributed to the heels.
- Promptly, One Man Gang and Rod Price stormed the ring to ruin the babyface momentum.
- With an assist from Price, Gang SQUISHED Dreamer courtesy of a 747.
- Roberts suffered the same misfortune, and HIT THE MUSIC!
- Guess who’s NOT incarcerated?
- Yep, it’s New Jack along with Kronus with plenty of plunder.
- Kronus and New Jack dismantled Price and Gang with weapons, and New Jack hammered the already-injured Victory.
- Following Kronus’ destruction with a shopping cart WAY DOWNTOWN on Price, New Jack neutered Jason with a kendo stick even further downtown.
- Kronus slammed Credible, mounted the top turnbuckle, and launched a 450°. Impressive!
- Unimpressed, Gang clotheslined Kronus and SQUISHED him with a 747.

- Mounting the top turnbuckle, Dreamer finished Credible with a frog splash.
- 1-2-NO!

- Demolishing Wright, Roberts got nailed WAY DOWNTOWN by Chastity.
- Dreamer got ahold of her and piledrove Chastity even further below sea level.

- Roberts dropped Credible with a DDT onto the ladder, and the babyfaces pinned poor Aldo.
- As a result, Dreamer and Roberts won at 13:23.

Summary: With the Victory injury, something ELSE had to happen. Chaos ensued.
POINT OF ORDER: According to Meltzer, Victory severely broke his leg and required surgery. From my notes, Victory didn’t return to ECW until August 1999.
Oh, wait! He’s back! Funk returns with a microphone and questions Dreamer about choosing Roberts for a partner. When Funk runs down Roberts, he accuses Dreamer of using him. Roberts smartly leaves the argument entirely, so Funk calls Dreamer an “asshole.” Angry, Dreamer tells Funk that he’ll turn his back to him but never hit him.
That proves to be stupid as Funk levels him from behind. With microphone still in hand, Funk pummels Dreamer before tossing him into the ring. Funk slaps the BEJEEZUS out of Dreamer and returns him to the ramp. When Dreamer won’t return fire, Funk repeatedly rams him face-first into the ramp. Crazed, Funk challenges members of the New Orleans faithful before Styles screams to show something else.
Backstage, RVD hijacks the interview by putting himself over.
Elsewhere backstage, Taz cuts a fantastic promo on Douglas.
Prior to the next match, Douglas grabs the microphone, runs down Taz, and swears A LOT. Before RVD and Sabu enter the ring, the Dudley Boys ambush them. Bubba Ray vaults RVD off the ramp to make him taste the steel railing. It must taste like the Lucy at Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar.

- When Bigelow got ahold of him, he rammed Taz face-first into the timekeeper’s table.
- Douglas reversed an Irish whip on the floor and sent RVD reeling into the front row.
- After Douglas dealt Sabu a fisherman’s suplex, Candido planted Sabu with a leg drop, brother.
- Sabu rebounded with a slingshot spinning heel kick, and RVD hammered Bigelow in the back with a chair.
- While Sabu disposed of Candido via a backdrop over the top rope, RVD walloped Bigelow with a chair again.
- Bigelow yanked Taz down from the apron and rammed him face-first into it.
- Once Fonzie slid a chair into the ring, Sabu set it up and successfully connected with a slingshot tope. He almost bit it but made it work.

- Flattening Douglas with a triple jump moonsault, Sabu got 2.

- Taz tagged in, clotheslined Bigelow, and vaulted Candido with a release German suplex.
- With chaos abound, Sabu wiped out Douglas with a leg drop.
- Taz and Douglas were left alone in the ring, and Douglas was PETRIFIED.
- Clotheslining Douglas, Taz got reversed on an Irish whip.
- Simultaneously, RVD annihilated Bigelow via somersault tope.
- Taz reversed a cross corner whip, avoided the float-over, and trapped Douglas in a katahajime.
- Mounting the top turnbuckle, Sabu launched an Arabian facebuster with a chair hitting both Taz and Douglas.
- 1-2-3.
- Sabu, Taz, and RVD won at 12:59.
Rating: ***
Summary: Almost 100% disjointed match with each wrestler trying to fit his shit into a 13-minute match. They could have told the story of Douglas and Taz since this was PPV, but nope.
Following the match, Sabu and Taz go nose-to-nose, but cooler heads prevail. Since Taz’s temper can’t cool down enough, he manhandles Sabu until Fonzie and RVD separate them.
Conclusion: If this show is supposed to make me want to continue watching ECW, it failed by Biblical proportions. There was a clear-cut story to be told at the end of the PPV. After all, it could truly have been a November to Remember; however, we were SWERVED.
Unless you absolutely LOVE ECW, avoid this show. Who’s hungry for Cajun?
