Match 1: Shaun Simpson versus Cowboy Tony

Highlights:

  • Eric Embry joined the broadcast table for this match.
  • When Shaun reversed a cross corner whip, he hip-tossed Tony.
  • He blocked a hip toss and fed Tony another one of his own.
  • As he ducked a clothesline, Shaun launched a cross body block for 2.
  • Tony dealt Shaun a snap mare, mounted the second turnbuckle, and unleashed a fist drop for 2.
  • After Shaun gave Tony a cross corner whip, he came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Shaun escaped a hammerlock by climbing the turnbuckles and flipping over him.
  • While he rolled up Tony, Shaun pinned him at 4:54.

Rating: **

Summary: Shaun’s push continues with a victory over the “ultimate cowboy.”

Vince Apollo, who’s been stationed at ringside, captures Shaun’s attention long enough for Tony to ambush the young South African from behind. As Embry leaves the broadcast table, he removes scissors from Tony’s saddlebag. Before Shaun can lose a strand or two of hair, he escapes Tony’s clutches and kicks Embry out of the ring.

He grabs the scissors and snips a few locks from Tony to the delight of the Dallas faithful. Next, Embry returns to the ring and puts a knee into Shaun’s back. Although Embry tries, Shaun fights him off, so Embry hightails it back to the locker room. Can’t say the kid can’t fight.

Match 2: Tony Atlas versus the “Thumper” Frankie Lancaster

Highlights:

  • Believe it or not, “Gentleman” Chris Adams returned to WCCW for the first time in over a year and joined the broadcast table.
  • Atlas blocked a slam and fed Lancaster one of his own.
  • As Atlas trapped him in a bear hug, Lancaster raked the eyes to escape.
  • Atlas dealt Lancaster an atomic drop and reapplied the bear hug.
  • When Lancaster escaped again, he delivered a leg drop but missed a second attempt.
  • Atlas headbutted Lancaster, mounted the second turnbuckle, and uncorked a flying head butt.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Atlas won at 5:13.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for Atlas as Lancaster had no answers for his freakish strength.

THE HART ATTACK: Hart is vehement about Kerry’s comeback while footage of Kevin versus Al Perez from Mesquite on 9/20 is shown. Adias interferes, so Kerry knocks him silly with a discus punch. When Perez tries to ambush Kevin from behind, Kerry tells him to duck and unfurls a discus punch to Perez. The Von Erichs double-dropkick the World champion while the Mesquite faithful LOSES ITS DAMN MINDS. Hart touts Adias as Kerry’s first challenge yet wants to keep an eye on him.

FRITZ’S SCRAPBOOK: Fritz and Kerry discuss his comeback, and he’s ready well ahead of his planned return at Christmas. In fact, Fritz believes Kerry will be ready to wrestle at the Thanksgiving show in Reunion Arena.

Match 3: Kevin Von Erich (w/ the “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich) versus Brian Adias (w/o the Ninja)

Highlights:

  • Kevin scored with a cross body block and got 2.
  • When Kevin fed him a standing dropkick, Adias rolled out to the floor.
  • Kevin dealt him a knee drop, but Adias rebounded by yanking Kevin’s trunks and clotheslining him with the top rope.
  • As he delivered his own knee drop, Adias missed a second attempt.
  • Kevin mounted the top turnbuckle and clobbered Adias with a flying elbow smash for 2.
  • After Kevin slammed him, Adias hit a back elbow.
  • The match segued to the floor, and Kevin rammed Adias face-first into Pulley’s table.
  • While Kevin attempted an Iron claw to the head, Adias blocked it.
  • Kevin subsequently applied it to the midsection, but Adias ultimately escaped.
  • Giving Adias a cross corner whip, Kevin came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Adias tied Kevin up in the ropes and nailed Kerry who had jumped onto the apron.
  • Unable to contain himself any further, Kerry entered the ring and brawled with Adias.
  • Referee Bronko Lubich called for the bell, and Adias won by DQ at 9:58.

Rating: ***

Summary: Another chapter in the battle of grudge matches between Kevin and Adias ends with Kerry’s involvement.

After the match, Kerry unloads a discus punch that sends Adias reeling between the ropes to the floor. Suddenly, Ted Arcidi along with Percy Pringle and “Killer” Tim Brooks storms the ring. Arcidi grabs the microphone and yammers on and on. With a sneak attack, Adias blasts Kevin with his cast.

Kerry takes care of himself by knocking Brooks into the middle of 1990 and slamming Arcidi much to the delight of Adams on commentary. To drive the Dallas faithful into a complete FRENZY, the Von Erichs double-dropkick Pringle. Kevin grabs the microphone and is elated to have his brother “back by (his) side.”

RINGSIDER OF THE WEEK: Ralph Pulley interviews Julie who’s PISSED about the Dallas Cowboys “being on strike,” so she and fifty of her friends are at the Sportatorium for real entertainment. Attagirl!

SPECIAL REPORT: Footage of Borne versus Perez is shown with interference by Iron Sheik. Next, we see last week’s match between Sheik and Villalobos from Fort Worth. Afterward, we return to Dallas to witness Sheik versus Madril. Finally, we get Sheik’s putting Oliveras into traction. We can’t forget that slimy, dirty Iron Sheik, can we?

Pulley interviews the VON ERICHS OVER AMERICA tour coordinator Steve Corey. The tour schedule is as follows:

  1. Birmingham, AL on 11/7
  2. San Antonio, TX on 11/11
  3. Austin, TX on 11/12
  4. Houston, TX on 11/14
  5. Oklahoma City, OK on 11/19
  6. Miami, FL on 11/21
  7. El Paso, TX on 11/24

Other cities are planned for the tour including:

  1. Chicago, IL
  2. New Orleans, LA
  3. Atlanta, GA
  4. Pittsburgh, PA
  5. Louis, MO
  6. Tampa, FL

You can’t say that Fritz isn’t trying.

Conclusion: Adias may have won this battle, but who will win the war? What does Hart have up his sleeve for the Von Erichs? Can Shaun maintain this momentum going into the Cotton Bowl? Since Atlas is stronger than ever, who will have the fortitude to challenge him?

Next week, matches from the Cotton Bowl including the Iron Sheik versus “Maniac” Matt Borne.
