Highlights:
- When the bell rang, Spoiler sprinted over to the heel corner and placed a knee into Pringle’s back. HA!
- Meanwhile, Denton spilled between the ropes to the floor.
- Spoiler demolished Pringle until Denton tried a sneak attack.
- As Spoiler pounded on Denton, Pringle laid helpless in the opposite corner.
- Spoiler polled the Dallas faithful who told him to further annihilate Pringle.
- After Spoiler continued his destruction, referee Ralph Pulley called for the bell.
- He ruled the bout a DQ, and Denton won at 1:17.
Rating: NONE
Summary: More angle than match as Spoiler deals Pringle some comeuppance from the tug-o-war attack.
After the match, Denton grabs Pringle’s cane, swings, but nails Pringle instead. Spoiler, satisfied with his retribution, leaves while Denton’s frustrated and Pringle’s OUT COLD.
What tug-o-war, you ask?
Nevertheless, we head to Fort Worth from “two weeks ago” where Spoiler and Arcidi prepare for a tug-o-war. While Arcidi yanks the rope, he clotheslines Spoiler immediately. Although Spoiler initially gains the advantage on Arcidi, the Dirty White Boys join the party and hogtie him in the corner with the rope. T. John Thibodeaux enters the ring to help Spoiler but gets double-teamed by the Dirty White Boys. After Thibodeaux gets dumped out of the ring, “Maniac” Matt Borne storms and clears the ring swinging his big chain.
Match 2: Shaun Simpson versus Cowboy Tony
Highlights:
- This match marked Shaun’s in-ring debut.
- As Shaun reversed a cross corner whip, he hip-tossed Tony.
- Shaun hooked a sunset flip but only got 2.
- When Shaun dropkicked him, Tony rebounded with a back drop.
- He landed a fist drop and got 2.
- After he fed Shaun a knee drop, Tony gave him a cross corner whip.
- Tony missed a clothesline, so Shaun backdropped him.
- While he dropkicked Tony again, Shaun dealt him another hip toss.
- Tony slammed Shaun and applied a Boston crab.
- Powering out instantly, Shaun landed atop Tony and got 2.
- He hooked a somersault rollup and pinned Tony at 5:40.
Rating: **
Summary: Impressive debut as Shaun showed his understanding of chain wrestling while Tony bumped accordingly for him.
Following the match, both his father and brother join Shaun in the ring to celebrate.
Lowrance introduces local radio personality from KEGL-FM John Roberts who will assist in the production of the show in the coming weeks.
FRITZ’S SCRAPBOOK: Fritz reads a letter from Marlon Luckwedge in Chicago, IL that requests more information about the Sportatorium. While Fritz explains that the building stands across the street from Reunion Arena and the Hyatt Regency Hotel, he lists some of the musical talents that have performed here such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Elvis Presley.
We see the exterior of the building along with the sign promoting the 7/17 show. Next, contracts promoting country music talents such as Merle Haggard and Roy Clark’s names are presented. We see the concession stands where a snow cone only costs $1. Remarkably, Fritz notes that the building holds 5000 patrons. A sign promoting French fries is shown, yet Fritz neglects to mention that they’re Jack’s Famous French fries.

Match 3: Bruiser Brody versus “Killer” Tim Brooks (w/ Percy Pringle)
Highlights:
- Brooks hip-tossed Brody who leapfrogged and fed him a big boot.
- When the match segued to the floor, Brody slammed Brooks.
- The Dallas faithful began a “Bruis-er” chant, and their hero punted Brooks.
- As he dealt Brooks another big boot, Brody got tripped by Pringle. SNEAKY!
- He sauntered after Pringle chasing him back to the locker room.
- After Brooks made him HIT THE POLE, Brody was BUSTED OPEN!
- Brooks slammed Brody but missed a leg drop.
- While Brody planted him with a third big boot, he destroyed Brooks with a leg drop, brother.
- Suddenly, Pringle returned but not alone as he brought Denton with him.
- Denton charged into the ring and brawled with Brody.
- Since Brody had the advantage against all three heels, referee Ralph Pulley let the action continue.
- Once Brody cleared the ring; however, Pulley called for the bell.
- Brody won by DQ at 5:24.
Rating: *
Summary: Unlike before, Brooks is part of a tag team with a manager, so he’s protected even against the likes of Brody. While I humbly realize that Brody’s not a mat wizard, his constant use of the boot is reaching the levels of Missing Link when all he used was his head as a weapon.
Afterward, the Dallas faithful showers Brody with another “Bruis-er” chant, and their hero, frustrated by Pringle’s nonsense, throws both his elbow pad and boot in the direction of the heel locker room.
WORLD CLASS WRESTLER PROFILE: Brian Adias is shown training with a ninja in broad daylight. I guess this one’s flexible on time. Nonetheless, according to Adias, the ninja’s name is Dim Chang which translates to “death touch.” Chang will second Adias to the ring to eliminate outside interference and promises that Adias will become the World champion.
POINT OF ORDER: That must be the WORST acting I’ve ever seen. Why, you ask? This ninja has a distinct Texas twang in his voice that would insult most people of Asian descent. The less talking this ninja does the better.
Match 4: Al Perez & Brian Adias versus Al Madril & Manuel Villalobos
Highlights:
- Adias tagged in, slammed Villalobos, but missed an elbow drop.
- As Madril tagged in, he popped Adias repeatedly.
- Villalobos guillotined Adias with the top rope as Lowrance shilled upcoming shows in both Corpus Christi, TX and Birmingham, AL.
- When Perez tagged in, Madril popped him like a pimple.
- Villalobos tagged in, mounted the top turnbuckle, and lowered the boom onto Perez.
- After Perez countered a side head lock with a belly-to-back suplex, Adias tagged in but missed another elbow drop.
- Adias leapfrogged him, but Villalobos fed him a thrust kick for 2.
- While Madril tagged in, he worked on Adias’ left leg.
- Villalobos tagged in, mounted the top turnbuckle again, and punished Adias’ leg even more.
- Coming off the ropes, Villalobos ate a knee to the back from Perez. How dastardly!
- Perez tagged in and suplexed Villalobos.
- Landing a knee drop, Perez got 2.
- He distracted referee Bronko Lubich by messing with Madril.
- Nefariously, Adias snuck into the ring and booted down Villalobos.
- Adias tagged in, and the heels dealt Villalobos a double back elbow for 2.
- Inflicting some pain, Adias delivered a swinging neckbreaker for another 2.
- Adias attempted a splash but ate knees.
- Hot tag Madril.
- Catching Adias with a flying shoulder block, Madril nailed an incoming Perez.
- Villalobos tagged in and flattened Adias with his own flying shoulder block for 1.
- With all four wrestlers in the ring, Adias hoisted Villalobos atop the top turnbuckle and decimated him with the Asian tool.
- Villalobos fell unconscious down to the mat, so referee Bronko Lubich called for the bell.
- No result given the circumstances.
Rating: ***
Summary: For the first time, we see the Asian tool along with its effect on an opponent.
After the match, Madril checks on Villalobos who remains OUT COLD. Referee Ralph Pulley along with Alec and Steve Simpson arrive to assist Villalobos. As ring announcer Joe Rinelli beckons for a stretcher, Simpson, et al., awaken Villalobos with splashes of water to the face.
To close the show, Lowrance mentions that Villalobos is receiving medical attention backstage. He interviews a very worrisome Madril who vows to make Adias “pay.”
Conclusion: The negative publicity surrounding Kevin’s collapse earlier this year must have been considerable for WCCW to counterprogram so strongly. Regardless, the Asian tool by Adias stands as the most dangerous weapon in Texas, and either Madril or Kevin Von Erich will seek payback for its destruction.
I certainly recommend this episode as it packs a lot into it with Shaun’s victory in his first match, the Spoiler’s annihilation and response, the history of the Sportatorium, Brody, and the main event angle. Snuggle up with your partner and enjoy the excitement!
Next week, Perez defends the Texas title against Sweet Brown Sugar.
