Opening montage.

Match 1: The Spoiler versus Texas Red (w/o Percy Pringle)

Highlights:

  • Spoiler slammed Red, received a cross corner whip, and evaded the future Deadman.
  • When he gave Spoiler a cross corner whip, Red pummeled him in the corner. Alleged overheard was “Gimme that ropewalk thingy!”
  • He fed Spoiler a shot to the midsection but missed a dropkick.
  • As Spoiler mounted the top turnbuckle, he dealt Red a flying clothesline.
  • He landed an elbow drop and pinned Red at 4:12.

Rating: -*

Summary: In fairness to Red, it’s his fifth match EVER; however, the Spoiler should have walked him through the basics much better than this dreck. This Red guy could be dead-on-arrival.

Match 2: The Dirty White Boys (w/ Percy Pringle) versus Steve Simpson & Sweet Brown Sugar

Highlights:

  • If you recall, back on the 7/4 reflection, Len Denton wore the “Dirty White Boy” gimmick against Kevin. Tonight, he teamed up with “Killer” Tim Brooks as the “Dirty White Boys.” Methinks I’ve heard this song before.
  • SBS reversed a cross corner whip and backdropped Denton.
  • As Brooks tagged in, SBS blocked a hip toss and fed him one of his own.
  • Denton tagged in, slammed SBS, and landed a double axe handle for 2.
  • When Brooks tagged in, the Dirty White Boys dealt SBS a double back elbow.
  • Brooks slammed SBS, scored with a leg drop, and got another 2.
  • After Denton tagged in, he backdropped SBS but couldn’t get 3.
  • Denton missed an elbow drop, so Simpson tagged in.
  • While Simpson missed a dropkick, Brooks tagged in and bounced Simpson off the top turnbuckle.
  • Simpson ducked a clothesline and launched a cross body block for 2.
  • Countering a slam, Simpson hooked an inside cradle for another 2.
  • He secured a sunset flip but couldn’t get 3 thanks to a save by Denton.
  • With all four wrestlers in the ring, referee Ralph Pulley turned his attention to SBS and Denton since they’re illegally in the ring.
  • That permitted Pringle to WHACK Simpson coming off the ropes in the back with his cane. How dastardly!
  • Planting Simpson with a leg drop, Brooks pinned him at 4:46.

Rating: **

Summary: Shenanigans by the Dirty White Boys?

KERRY’S KORNER: Since it’s the dog days of summer, Kerry has his dog Shea with him. We get a behind-the-scenes look at the TV production including the control room. Unlike the six-camera setup with the previous crew, this team maintains four cameras including two on the floor. Kerry continues to describe the process behind making the show including post-production and satellite distribution. Although it’s fascinating to a hardcore fan like me, I’m betting the kiddos watching this were bored out of their minds.

Match 3 for the WCWA Texas title: Al Perez (champion w/ Gary Hart) versus Tony Atlas

Highlights:

  • In case you’re curious, Atlas leaned into the “Black Superman” gimmick by donning the bodysuit and cape. Certainly, it made me drink my Coors Light faster than a speeding bullet.
  • Atlas slammed Perez but fell victim to a knee drop where Perez got 2.
  • When Perez landed another pair of knee drops, he got another 2.
  • Atlas rebounded with a hip toss much to the delight of the Mesquite faithful.
  • As he headbutted Perez, Atlas smacked him on his big schnozz.
  • He nailed Perez in the midsection which caused the latter to somersault.
  • After Perez hooked a rope-assisted abdominal stretch, somewhere on the Great American Bash tour, Mike Rotunda unknowingly grinned from ear to ear.
  • Atlas escaped, but Perez hooked the abdominal stretch again and cheated like a politician on his taxes. Rotunda’s expression allegedly changed from happy to angry instantaneously.
  • While he slammed Atlas, Perez missed an elbow drop.
  • Atlas clotheslined Perez and pounded him in the corner.
  • With referee Bronko Lubich admonishing Atlas for punching, Hart handed Perez the house microphone. SNEAKY!
  • Perez tried to hammer him with it, but Atlas blocked it.
  • Taking the microphone away, Atlas performed a sound check on Perez’s head.
  • Perez was BUSTED OPEN!
  • Due to using the foreign object, Atlas was disqualified.
  • Therefore, Perez retained at 10:15.

Rating: **

Summary: Not sure if Atlas didn’t wrestle well in this match because he knew he would lose or not. I’m glad that the microphone brought color to Perez making the show a “Sunday Bloody Sunday.”

WORLD CLASS WRESTLER PROFILE: Alec Simpson, better known as Sammy Cohen, stands alongside his sons Steve and Shaun in the ring within the Sportatorium. As Steve emphasizes family, he’s happy to have his brother with him in the WCWA. Shaun says that he’s Steve’s biggest fan as the two practice in the ring with Alec’s oversight. On the other hand, Shaun demonstrates his jewelry-making skills to his older brother. To finish the segment, Steve associates his teaming with Shaun as a “wildfire out of control.” Quite the unique perspective.

Match 4: Bruiser Brody versus Abdullah the Butcher (w/ Gary Hart)

Highlights:

  • Before the bell, Abdullah noticed Brody at ringside but ate a gas can shot to the head. Can you tell we’re in a rodeo arena, folks?
  • Nevertheless, Abdullah was BUSTED OPEN!
  • Don Gay joined the broadcast table for his match.
  • As Brody flattened him with a big boot, he mounted the top turnbuckle and clobbered Abdullah with a single axe handle.
  • Abdullah rebounded thanks to a plastic knife from his pants while he bludgeoned Brody with it.
  • Expectedly, Brody was BUSTED OPEN.
  • Abdullah took Brody down with a shoulder block and followed with an elbow drop for 2.
  • When Brody belted Abdullah with a pair of boots, Abdullah retaliated with a shot from WAY DOWNTOWN.
  • The match segued to the floor, and Brody rammed Abdullah face-first into ring announcer Chris Kerson’s table.
  • After he grabbed a plastic chair, Brody WHACKED Abdullah with it.
  • They headed among the Mesquite faithful, and Abdullah rammed Brody face-first into the Mesquite-flavored wall.
  • While Brody bounced Abdullah’s head off a production crane, the match ended without a winner.
  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • Officially, the match was ruled a double disqualification at 5:50.

Rating: **

Summary: While tone of the previous match resembled U2, this one had the sensation of AC/DC. Obviously, the ring couldn’t contain these warriors, and chaos prevailed.

Conclusion:  As the main event was an anticipated bloodbath, Atlas wrestled like Perez kept giving him kryptonite. The Dirty White Boys prevailed, yet the masked men stunk up the rodeo arena worse than a bull after a bout of Texas two-step.

Next week, it’s a battle of champions as Embry and Lancaster battle SBS and Atlas!
