Opening montage.

Match 1: “Killer” Tim Brooks versus Steve Doll

Highlights:

  • Doll converted a test-of-strength into a monkey flip, but Brooks fed him a shoulder block.
  • When Doll reversed an Irish whip, he sent Brooks reeling into the scaffold.
  • Brooks countered a side head lock with a knee crusher and tried to sneak a pin while holding the ropes. Nefarious!
  • As Brooks applied a bear hug, Doll rang his bell to escape.
  • He gave Brooks a cross corner whip, and Brooks HIT THE POLE.
  • After Brooks attempted a slam, Doll countered with an inside cradle for 2.
  • Doll ducked a clothesline, uncomfortably dropkicked Brooks, and followed with an awkward powerslam due to his injured leg.
  • While he countered a second slam attempt with an inside cradle, Doll pinned Brooks at 7:34.
  • UPSET CITY!

Rating: **

Summary: Doll did a good job of selling the leg affect his moves, yet he used his noggin to upset Brooks. Will he get a push or continue to be the plucky underdog?

Match 2: Mil Mascaras versus Al Madril

Highlights:

  • Mascaras tied him up in La Tapatia, but Madril wouldn’t submit.
  • As Mascaras converted a test-of-strength into a headscissors, Madril sought the ropes to escape.
  • Following a clip, Mascaras hip-tossed Madril twice and hooked an abdominal stretch.
  • Mascaras took him down to the mat, but Madril’s feet were in the ropes.
  • When Mascaras fed him an atomic drop, Madril rebounded with a pop so hard that Mascaras spilled down to the turf.
  • Mascaras returned to the apron and dealt him a ten-top-turnbuckle count-along.
  • After he delivered a pair of flying head butts, Mascaras suplexed Madril.
  • He mounted the top turnbuckle and scored with a cross body block.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Mascaras won at 7:04 shown.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for the Mexican superstar. Madril, except for his heel tactics, had zero offense in the match.

Match 3: Red River Jack & Spike Huber versus Abdullah the Butcher & Eli the Eliminator (w/ Gary Hart & “Gentleman” Jim Holliday)

Highlights:

  • Should Eli and Abdullah triumph, Jack must remove his mask; however, should Jack and Huber win, Jack would receive five minutes against Hart.
  • A mid-ring collision put both Huber and Eli down on the mat, and Eli slammed him.
  • When he landed a leg drop, Eli missed a second attempt.
  • Jack tagged in, dragged Eli down to the turf, and rammed him face-first into the broadcast table.
  • As Jack’s already BUSTED OPEN due to his alter ego’s earlier battle against Swenson, Abdullah joined the fray and fed Jack some of his own medicine.
  • Abdullah WHACKED Jack with a chair to the back and clotheslined Huber with the scaffold. OUCH!
  • After Abdullah tagged in, he craftily jabbed Jack with a plastic knife unbeknownst to referee Rick Hazzard.
  • He bounced Jack’s head off the scaffold and assaulted him with the knife.
  • While Jack rebounded with a series of boots, the Irving faithful chanted “go, Jack, go.”
  • Eli switched with Abdullah, but Jack punted him inside the 20-yard line.
  • Hot tag Huber.
  • Backdropping Eli, Huber dropkicked Abdullah on the apron.
  • He slammed Eli, delivered a pair of leg drops, and got 2.
  • Planting Eli with a backbreaker, Huber got another 2.
  • Jack and Abdullah waged a war near the broadcast table, yet Huber escaped a slam attempt.
  • Since the war knocked out the audio, Mercer couldn’t describe Holliday’s interference in the ring.
  • Hart continued to distract Hazzard, so Jack booted Holliday down.
  • Using momentum to counter a tombstone, Huber pinned Eli at 6:27.

Rating: **

Summary: Insane brawl as you’d expect between Brody’s alter ego and Abdullah. Combine that with Huber’s efforts against Eli, and the Irving faithful got quite the barnburner.

POINT OF ORDER: As you may recall, Warrior was supposed to be involved in this match but did not appear at this spectacular. This becomes important later in the year.

Match 4: Red River Jack versus Gary Hart

Highlights:

  • Hart stormed the ring and attacked Jack.
  • As Abdullah handed him his knife, Hart blasted Jack.
  • Hart tried to unmask him, but Jack rebounded with a boot that missed by a country mile. Ever the pro, Hart sold it like there’s no tomorrow.
  • Thanks, Apollo.
  • When Hart sought refuge on the turf, Jack prevented him from leaving by removing Hart’s button-down shirt.
  • Hart grabbed a chair and nailed Jack on the turf.
  • After they brawled on the turf, Jack clobbered him with a chair.
  • Eli and Abdullah rescued their manager, and Jack won at 2:15.

Rating: NONE

Summary: More of a revenge/grudge battle than an actual match.

Instead of showing the lumberjack country whippin’ match between Sweet Brown Sugar and Brian Adias due to the substitution for Mike Von Erich by SBS, WCCW replays the Brody-Swenson clash from last week.

Match 5 for the WCWA World title: Kevin Von Erich (champion) versus Nord the Barbarian (w/o Gary Hart)

Highlights:

  • To honor his recently fallen brother, Kevin wore Mike’s ring jacket to the ring.
  • Nord fed Kevin a flying shoulder block and got 2.
  • When he powerslammed Kevin, Nord got another 2.
  • Kevin mule-kicked Nord twice but got slammed.
  • As Nord mounted the top turnbuckle, he missed a guillotine leg drop.
  • Kevin dealt Nord a powerslam of his own and got 2.
  • After he mounted the top turnbuckle, Kevin scored with a missile dropkick for another 2.
  • Kevin attempted a splash but ate boot.
  • While the Irving faithful chanted “go, Kevin, go,” their hero suffered a backbreaker.
  • Nord landed a leg drop across Kevin’s back and hooked a Canadian backbreaker.
  • Countering, Kevin applied an Iron claw causing the Irving faithful to ERUPT.
  • Both wrestlers spilled over the top rope to the turf, and Kevin made Nord HIT THE POLE.
  • With both wrestlers outside the ring, referee Rick Hazzard called for the bell.
  • The result was a double countout at 5:12.

Rating: **

Summary: The man just lost his little brother, so I feel that Nord should have done the job for Kevin in Mike’s honor.

After the match, Kevin and Nord battle on the turf, and Nord boots down Hazzard. Kevin bounces Nord’s head off the stadium wall, and the locker room empties. Despite their involvement, the brawl continues until enough reinforcements separate them. Kevin returns to the ring to retrieve the World title belt and receives a great ovation.

Conclusion:  Regardless of the BS finish, Kevin retained the World title in front of his most faithful fans. Jack and Huber won; thus, Jack got the chance to destroy Hart. Doll upset Brooks, so perhaps he’ll be doing more than count the lights.

Besides the lumberjack match, the six-woman mud match was also not televised.

Next week, the Fantastics square off against Adias and Madril while Hart introduces a NEW protégé.
