Hosted by Bill Mercer

Can the Von Erichs retain against Adias, Black Bart, and Crusher? What’s on Kerry’s mind, and what’s the latest on his injury? How do the Von Erichs feel about Madril and Adias? Come on in for all the Texas ‘rasslin’ you can handle!

Opening montage.

As an “addition” to WCCW, Mercer introduces Sherri and Candy—the World Class Girls. Since there hasn’t been a lot of female wrestling, I’d bet this is a potshot in the direction of both Sherri Martel and Candi Devine.

Match 1: Scott Casey versus the Grappler

Highlights:

  • Casey grabbed an arm bar, but Grappler stood up and used the ropes for both leverage and a 2-count. Crafty!
  • When Grappler blocked a hip toss, Casey flipped out of it and fed one to him.
  • Grappler backdropped Casey who landed on his feet and dropkicked him. You did NOT see that often in 1986. Where has THIS Scott Casey been?
  • As Grappler laid one in, Casey scrambled to the blue floor.
  • An angry Casey grabbed a chair, but Grappler nailed him from behind. SNEAKY!
  • After he gave Casey a HARD cross corner whip to injure the back, Grappler slammed him.
  • He dealt Casey a fist drop and got 2.
  • While Grappler clotheslined him, Casey sought a brief respite on the blue floor.
  • Grappler suplexed Casey back into the ring and got another 2.
  • Upon tossing Casey to the blue floor, Grappler slammed him. OUCH!
  • Casey rebounded with a head butt, grabbed Grappler by the mask, and socked him. That’ll learn ‘im!
  • Piledriving Grappler, Casey got 2.
  • Casey attempted a double underhook suplex, but Grappler countered with a back drop.
  • Slamming Casey again, Grappler missed an elbow drop.
  • Casey bulldogged and pinned Grappler at 9:08.

Rating: **½

Summary: Showcase match for Casey, but Grappler worked a bit snug here.

At Kerry’s home, Mercer interviews him while displaying the crutch that Madril blasted Kerry with last week. Kerry truly believes that Adias is heavily influenced by Madril. As we revisit the attack, Kerry warns both Adias and Madril. He calls Madril’s actions “unexcusable.” Has Kerry been taking promo lessons from Warrior and Sawyer?

Nevertheless, Mercer asks Kerry about his right leg. Kerry mentions the amputation possibility, but his leg is improving. If Kerry hadn’t worn a brace, Madril’s actions would have fractured Kerry’s leg again. He’ll return to the ring down the line but might join Kevin and Mike whenever necessary. Like a gentleman, Mercer wishes him well on the setback.

At ringside, Mercer interviews Kevin, Mike, and Lance. Kevin states that “Kerry’s comeback has been hindered” yet promises his return. As Kevin cuts a promo on Madril, Mike runs down Adias. Lance pledges that Madril and Adias will pay for turning on the Von Erichs. When Kevin talks about Adias, he basically refers to him basically as a minion of Kerry’s yet wants a match against him. Mike finishes the interview with stern warnings.

Sorry, Chester.

Match 2: Al Madril versus Bart Batten

Highlights:

  • Madril hip-tossed Bart but suffered a couple of arm drags.
  • As Bart hip-tossed him, he dropkicked Madril between the ropes to the blue floor.
  • Bart gave Madril a cross corner whip and followed with a monkey flip.
  • When Madril reversed a cross corner whip, he sent Bart barreling into referee Bronko Lubich.
  • Madril took the match to the blue floor and rammed Bart face-first into Lowrance’s table.
  • After Madril located a 2×4 from under the ring, he WHACKED Bart on the head with it. In actuality, he missed by a mile.
  • Nonetheless, he bonked Bart again with it, rammed him into Lowrance’s table again and dragged him into the ring.
  • While Bart was BUSTED OPEN, Madril clotheslined him.
  • He landed an elbow drop and pinned Bart at 4:34.

Rating: *

Summary: Showcase match for the returning yet evil Madril.

Match 3: Tony Atlas versus Dusty Patterson

Highlights:

  • Patterson baited Atlas into posing and made him pay for it.
  • When Atlas rebounded with a hip toss, he headbutted Patterson.
  • He nailed Patterson in the midsection and fed him an atomic drop.
  • As he trapped Patterson in a sleeper, Atlas won at 2:03.

Rating: DUD

Summary: Showcase match for Atlas. Methinks Fritz might be ribbing a rather bionic booker in another territory.

Match 4 for the WCWA World Six-Man tag titles: Kevin, Lance, & Mike Von Erich versus Brian Adias, Black Bart, & Crusher Yurkov (w/ “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe)

Highlights:

  • Before the match began, the Dallas faithful chided Adias as a “traitor.”
  • Mike reversed a cross corner whip and hip-tossed Black Bart.
  • As he fed Black Bart a pair of flying headscissors, Mike thwarted an escape with a mini-piledriver.
  • Crusher tagged in, and Kevin exploded toward the heel corner to get his mitts on Adias.
  • When Adias hightailed it to the blue floor, Crusher gave Mike a cross corner whip but came up empty on his follow-through.
  • Black Bart tagged in as Adias refused a tag.
  • After Lance tagged in, Adias finally tagged in.
  • Lance scored with a cross body block and got 1.
  • While Adias scampered back to the heel corner, Crusher tagged in.
  • Adias tagged back in only because of the heel advantage and landed a pair of elbow drops.
  • Clotheslining Lance, Adias tagged out to Black Bart.
  • Kevin tagged in, mounted the top turnbuckle, and lowered the boom onto Black Bart.
  • Planting a standing dropkick to Black Bart, Kevin went after Adias who saw his life flash before his eyes before scurrying to the blue floor.
  • The heels triple-teamed Kevin in their corner which baited Lance and Mike into the ring.
  • With referee Rick Hazzard occupied, Mike tried a sneak attack from the rear to no avail.
  • Crusher tagged in and tossed Kevin like a bag of bowling balls across the ring.
  • Ducking a clothesline, Kevin dropkicked Crusher and trapped him in a headscissors.
  • Adias took liberties with Kevin prompting Hazzard to admonish him.
  • Dastardly, Sharpe gave Kevin the business thanks to the distraction.
  • Lance tried to intervene, but Crusher bounced him back to the babyface corner.
  • Tagging in, Adias backdropped Kevin but missed a knee drop.
  • He suplexed Kevin but only got 1.
  • Rejoining the match, Crusher attempted a back drop, but Kevin leapfrogged him albeit not easily.
  • Hot tag Lance.
  • He dropkicked Crusher but fell victim to an inverted atomic drop. I’m guessing Lance’s Friday night plans might have been scrapped due to this unfortunate occurrence.
  • Taking another turn, Black Bart tagged in and guillotined Lance with the top rope.
  • Crusher tagged in but missed a roundhouse.
  • Having caught his breath, Kevin tagged in and applied an Iron claw to Crusher.
  • Black Bart jumped into the fray, but Lance trapped him in an Iron claw.
  • To save his partners, Adias came in and thwarted any threat by Mike.
  • Adias pummeled Kevin to break the hold, but Mike jumped on his back.
  • Amidst the chaos, Hazzard went down courtesy of Adias yet called for the bell.
  • Von Erichs retained at 9:55.

Rating: ***

Summary: Hot main event with each Von Erich wanting to get their hands on Adias who cowered in fear.

After the match, Sharpe involves himself in the scrum and yanks Adias out. Lance and Black Bart brawl on the opposite side of the ring until Kevin and Mike shoo Black Bart away. As the heels try to slither away, the Von Erichs catch up to them in the aisle. A melee ensues until Dallas’ finest restore order.

Conclusion:  The saga between Madril/Adias and the Von Erichs continues while Adias becomes even more of a villainous heel this week. In addition, Madril’s about-face from his babyface days during his earlier WCCW stints resonates well with the Dallas faithful. Casey’s match is quite impressive compared to his previous efforts.

POINT OF ORDER: The level of snark in this episode was not lost on me as Fritz took creative liberties against Dusty Rhodes, Sherri Martel, and Candi Devine. Interestingly, this episode aired  Thanksgiving weekend as Jim Crockett Promotions ran Starrcade ’86 opposite the WCWA spectacular at Reunion Arena. I hope we see some of those matches in upcoming episodes.

Next week, Atlas and Warrior square off against Black Bart and “Maniac” Matt Borne. That’s a lot of muscle!
