How will Lance fare against a Pringle-less Rude? Can Adias upset the World champion? What could possibly be on Dingo’s mind? Potato chips perhaps?

Opening montage.

Prior to the first match, WCWA chaplain Gary Holder introduces Leslie Pryor, Steve Tanner, and Cody Burkett. Between them, they raised $1200 in a bowl-a-thon for cystic fibrosis.

Match 1: Steve Simpson & Mark Youngblood versus the Grappler & Spike Johnson

  • When tags were exchanged on both sides again, Youngblood gave Grappler a cross corner whip followed by a back drop.
  • Youngblood leapfrogged Grappler and followed up with a pair of dropkicks.
  • As Simpson tagged in, he came off the ropes and nailed Johnson from the corner down to the floor.
  • Johnson tagged in and clotheslined Simpson.

  • Simpson and Youngblood won at 7:06.

Rating: **

Summary: Simpson seems to be all over the card. From main-eventing to curtain-jerking, Simpson always keeps the Dallas faithful in his corner.

At ringside, Mercer interviews Dingo Warrior who’s not happy with who his “friends” have been lately. We revisit last week when the World tag team champions refused to tag Warrior. After Pringle berated him, Warrior took his cane and whacked his feet with it. He broke the cane cementing his face turn. Warrior’s “on (his) own now.” He screams a lot.

In another pre-taped interview, “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and the Crusher are on their way to the WCWA. Crusher drools like a mad canine and bites a Diet Coke can in half. He should switch to caffeine-free.

Match 2: Lance Von Erich versus “Ravishing” Rick Rude (w/ Raven)

Highlights:

  • Wow! I had no idea Rude stuck around for this taping. His JCP debut would be the same weekend as this telecast.
  • For those who haven’t been following along, Raven was not Scott Levy. Instead, she “replaced” Missy Hyatt when Tatum and Hyatt bolted to the UWF and is Rude’s sister Nancy.
  • Lance reversed a cross corner whip, but Rude leapfrogged him.
  • As Rude missed a clothesline, Lance monkey-flipped him out of the corner.
  • Rude slammed Lance but missed an elbow drop.
  • When the Dallas faithful LOUDLY chanted “go, Lance, go,” Rude snap-suplexed their hero for 2.
  • Rude applied a bear hug and converted to a belly-to-belly suplex for another 2.
  • After Rude applied an abdominal stretch, he rolled Lance up but couldn’t get 3.
  • Rude reapplied the bear hug, took Lance down, and got yet another 2.
  • While Lance escaped, he slammed Rude, mounted the top turnbuckle, but missed a flying splash.
  • Rude snuck in a cover for 2.
  • Snap-suplexing Lance again, Rude got another 2.
  • He slammed Lance, mounted the second turnbuckle, but missed a fist drop.
  • Nailing Rude with a thrust kick, Lance fed Rude a vertical suplex for 2.
  • Both wrestlers spilled over the top rope to the floor and brawled like two men over a beautiful woman.
  • Before referee Bronko Lubich reached twenty, Lance snuck into the ring.
  • Lance won via countout at 9:23.

Rating: ***

Summary: Other than becoming the first WCWA World champion, Rude’s job in the WCWA was to put Lance Von Erich over. As I said in a previous reflection, he put Mike over a couple times before packing his bags.

Match 3 (non-title): WCWA World champion Black Bart versus Brian Adias

Highlights:

  • Adias monkey-flipped out of a test-of-strength, leapfrogged Black Bart, and dropkicked him twice.
  • When he reversed a cross corner whip, Adias took Black Bart down with a flying headscissors.
  • Another flying headscissors took Black Bart down again, and Adias connected with a cross body block for 2.
  • As he blasted Black Bart a bunch of times, Adias got another 2.
  • Black Bart clotheslined and guillotined him on the top rope.
  • After he landed a knee drop, Black Bart got 2.
  • He placed a knee and popped him twice into Adias’ midsection.
  • While Adias gave him a cross corner whip, Black Bart countered a monkey-flip attempt with an inverted atomic drop.
  • Black Bart mounted the second turnbuckle and launched a flying leg drop.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Black Bart won at 9:30.

Rating: **

Summary: Adias gave him a fight, but the new World champion came out on top. There must be something more for Adias to do than put over the top heels, right?

Match 4 (non-title): “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer & “Maniac” Matt Borne (w/ Percy Pringle) versus Zulu & Steve Doll

Highlights:

  • What kind of main event is this?
  • Sawyer rammed Doll face-first into the mat and tagged in Borne.
  • As Borne slammed Doll, Sawyer tagged in amidst a chorus of “Ding-o” by the Dallas faithful.
  • Tags were exchanged on both sides, and Borne fed Zulu a belly-to-belly suplex for 2.
  • When tags were exchanged again on both sides, Sawyer reversed a cross corner whip.
  • Doll leaped to the second turnbuckle, attempted a cross body block, but got powerslammed.
  • After Borne tagged in, he mounted the top turnbuckle and uncorked a flying senton splash.
  • 1-2-3.
  • Borne and Sawyer won at 3:09.

Rating: ½*

Summary: Showcase match for the World tag team champions. Pringle’s sport coat must be seen to be believed.

Conclusion:  While the World champion and World tag team champions remain strong, Lance found a way to defeat Rude. Warrior’s face turn has been cemented, but what’s this happening next week?

Next week, Kevin and Mike Von Erich square off against Dingo Warrior and Rude.
